Module III and II Academies

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office Module III and II Academy meets the minimum standards set forth by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) to become a Level II Reserve Peace Officer.

Classes are typically, Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00pm-10:00pm, and Saturdays from 7:00am-5:00pm.

Module I Academy

The 468-hour intensive (full-time) course is designed to meet the minimum requirements of a full-time peace officer as established by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and is the final component of the Regular Basic Course – Modular Format Academy.

Both programs are academically and physically demanding. The program is paramilitary structured, requiring students to work together as a team, while learning leadership skills and responsibility.   
Cadets are required to show a high level of self-respect, self-discipline, and professionalism.  Cadets will be held to a high standard of ethical behavior as a representative of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

Classes are typically, Monday through Friday from 7:00am-5:00pm.  Classes will involve some evenings and weekends as required for necessary training.

The Sheriff’s Office is starting a list for interested candidates meeting all prerequisites in anticipation of the upcoming Module 1 Academy, which begins on May 29th, 2024

Prerequisites for Affiliated Cadets

Prerequisites for affiliated cadets

Letter on department letterhead stating that the cadet is being sponsored by your agency, meets the POST requirements listed below, DOJ clearance is on file with your agency, and has been cleared medically for law enforcement essential functions. Tuition will be billed to your agency.

Prerequisites for unaffiliated cadets

  • POST Training Profile showing successful completion of POST Modules III and II within last 36 months
  • Passing score on Module II End of Course Proficiency Test - within last 12 months
  • Department of Justice clearance to possess a firearm - within last 90 days

Application Process

  • Sheriff’s Academy Application
  • Oral Interview
  • Medical Clearance
  • Department of Justice Clearance including firearms possession
  • Reception of an Academy Letter of Acceptance
  • Tuition paid in full:
    • Module III: $1062
    • Module II: $1173
    • Module I: $2409    
  • There will be some additional costs associated that are the responsibility of the cadets for things such as uniforms.  
    • Unaffiliated cadets will be required to provide their own duty gear, firearm, and ammunition.
    • Leather/Duty Gear:  All Cadets must have the following leather/duty gear: Sam Browne style duty belt, leather basket weave inner belt, holster, magazine pouch (for at least 2 magazines,) expandable baton holder, handcuff case, pepper spray holder and radio holder.  Duty gear must be matching in color and stye, and for affiliated cadets must be in accordance with department’s policy.
    • Weapon: A good quality semi-automatic pistol in excellent operating condition. Only 9mm , 40 cal., and 45 cal. guns are acceptable.  Weapons will be equipped with at least three magazines. Weapons will comply with the Penal Code (sections 12125-12133) and be on the California Department of Justice handgun list.
