History of the Sheriff's Office
The Fresno County Sheriff's Office has a long and proud history, serving the citizens since 1856. This section is dedicated to the history of the Sheriff’s Office and the men and women who have been a part of the organization throughout the years.
In 1957, under the direction of then Sheriff Melvin Wilmirth, the first issue of the "Sheriff's Office Annual" was published by the Fresno County Sheriff's Office Employee Relief Association. The publication continued until 1991. In 2002, the Sheriff's Foundation for Public safety took over the publication of the "Sheriff's Review." The last issue was published in 2003.
