The Sheriff of Fresno County also has the responsibilities of being the Coroner. The Coroner's Office investigates deaths falling under the guidelines of the California Government Code §27491.
It is the mission of the Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner's Office to provide excellence in public service through our uncompromising belief in dignity in death. We strive to serve and protect the interests of the community by determining the cause, circumstances and manner of sudden or unexplained deaths that occur within our jurisdiction. We identify the deceased and notify their next-of-kin, while insuring that the deceased and their property are treated with the utmost respect and dignity. We accomplish our mission through the use of pathologists, consultants, and other methods of investigation.
Copies of Coroner’s Reports
*** Please allow a minimum of 4-6 weeks for completion. For a timeline of completion, please reach out to your assigned deputy coroner.
A complete Coroner Report includes the scene investigation prepared by the deputy coroner, the autopsy report prepared by the pathologist (if an autopsy is performed), and the toxicology report. Coroner’s Reports are provided when the investigation is completed. Reports have a $84.55 fee, payable in advance by cashier’s check or money order. You may download a PDF of the request form in the "Helpful Links" section of this page. You may also request a copy by sending your request in the mail to the: Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office at 3333 E. American Avenue, Ste. G, Fresno, CA 93725. Your written request should include: (1) the decedent’s name and date of death; (2) your name and relationship to the decedent; (3) the address, email, fax number that you would like the report mailed to; and (4) a cashier’s check, business check or money order made payable to the Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office for $84.55.
