Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies have booked three teenagers into the Juvenile Justice Center.

  • A 13-year-old boy faces felony charges for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property and DUI, which is a misdemeanor.
  • A 17-year-old boy faces felony charges for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools.
  • A 17-year-old girl faces a felony charge for possession of stolen property.

Around 10:45 pm Friday, a Fresno County Sheriff’s deputy exited the northbound Highway 99 off-ramp to Ashlan Ave. in Fresno when he heard a loud sound of screeching tires. He checked his rear view mirror and saw five people run away from a Honda Accord that had spun out of control. The deputy immediately turned around and approached the car to further investigate the situation. The deputy radioed for additional units to assist him apprehend the group of fleeing people by setting up a perimeter in the area. It was then determined that the Honda Accord was a reported stolen vehicle out of Fresno.

Within the next half hour, deputies were able to catch three of the five suspects who were hiding around the nearby railroad yard. The 13-year-old boy apprehended is who the deputy observed flee from the driver’s seat of the stolen car. During a conversation with the boy, the deputy smelled a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. An officer with the California Highway Patrol was dispatched to the scene to conduct a field sobriety test on the teenager. The test revealed that the teenager was intoxicated.

Deputies are going through the process of returning the Honda Accord to its rightful owner.
